Bandipur

The forest has an alluring appeal to those who immerse themselves in the wild. It is only in the laps of nature can we truly comforted and cheerful. Be it the beautiful sunsets, where the sun seems to be kissing the horizon, spreading the glorious colours of life in the evening skies, the mixed diversity of flora and fauna which welcomes you time and again, the soothing silence, the rocky terrains, the meadows, the magical rivers with sparkling waters, everything in the forests makes us meet the inner happy-go-lucky child present deep within us. The Bandipur National Park also is one such National Parks which ignites our inferno soul which is deep dead by the pressures of the concrete, confined world. The Bandipur National Park which also is a tiger reserve is nestled in Chamarajanagar district, about 80kms away from Mysore in the southern state of Karnataka and shares its boundaries with the other paradises, The Nagarhole National Park, The Mudumalai National park and Wayanad Wildlife sanctuary.

Spanning over a wide expanse of 874sq kms, the fragrance of the land in Bandipur seems to vividly acknowledge the heritage and the rich past. Once a private hunting reserve for the Maharaja of the Kingdom of Mysore, Bandipur has now been upgraded to a Tiger Reserve, due to the dwindling tiger population. Apart from this vital touch of history, the Bandipur holds a visual treat of wide ranging animals and plants including the population of endangered and vulnerable species like Indian elephants, gaurs, tigers, sloth bears, muggers, Indian rock pythons, four-horned antelopes, jackals and 200 species of birds through all seasons. Hence, the Bandipur National Park is recognised as the largest protected area in southern India and largest habitat of wild elephants in south Asia.
